This initiative aims to decarbonize the maritime logistics chain by integrating solar and wind energy.

Spiral Hydrogen OÜ

https://www.spiralhydrogen.com/

Spiral Hydrogen is an Estonian-Dutch deep-tech startup headquartered in Tallinn, Estonia, that is pioneering a revolutionary centrifugal, bubble-free electrolysis technology to produce low-cost green hydrogen. Founded in early 2024 by Juri Volodin and Fedor Stomakhin, the company aims to eliminate the core inefficiencies of conventional systems to bring the levelized cost of green hydrogen below that of fossil fuels.

Conventional electrolyzers lose up to 30% of their input energy because gas bubbles form directly on the electrode surfaces, blocking active reaction sites.

Technology principle:

  • Mechanical part: Uses a rotating, centrifugal alkaline electrolyzer design.

  • Bubble Elimination: Centrifugal forces prevent bubble formation on electrode surfaces.

  • Declared efficiency: Achieves an operational efficiency of over 90% to 95% (HHV).

  • Form Factor: High energy density allows for a compact, modular build.

  • Dual-Use Potential: The bubble-free architecture enables water electrolysis in zero-gravity space environments.

The company has quickly scaled from a lab concept to an internationally backed venture:

  • May 2025: Won the premier Estonian green innovation competition, Prototron, securing early prototype funding.

  • June 2025: Admitted into the ESA BIC Estonia (European Space Agency Business Incubation Centre) program, receiving a €60,000 deep-tech grant.

  • September 2025: Joined YES!Delft, a leading tech accelerator in the Netherlands, establishing its dual Estonian-Dutch footprint.

  • April 2026: Raised €2.7 million in pre-seed funding along with €0.7 million in non-dilutive grants. The equity round was led by Nordic/Baltic venture funds byFounders, Norrsken Evolve, and Superangel.

With its latest influx of capital, Spiral Hydrogen is transitioning from validated lab prototypes to industrial field testing. The company has partnered with SwitcH2 Offshore to deploy a 10 kW pilot system in the Port of Rotterdam
